Lost Car Keys Replacement launches a free online tool that estimates replacement key costs by year, make, model, state, time of day, and service provider.
New York, NY (PRUnderground) July 27th, 2026
Lost Car Keys Replacement today announced the release of its Car Key Replacement Cost Calculator in the U.S. , a free online tool that gives drivers a realistic price estimate for a replacement car key before they ever pick up the phone. The calculator is available now at https://lost-car-keys-replacement.com/calculator/.
Anyone who has lost a car key knows the frustration that follows. You call one locksmith and hear one number, you call a dealer and hear another, and you have no way of knowing which quote is fair. The new calculator was built to close that gap. Instead of a single generic figure, it factors in the details that actually move the price so drivers walk into the conversation already knowing what to expect.
To build the tool, the Lost Car Keys Replacement team spoke with more than 120 locksmiths and dealers across the country. The team also reached out to tow truck companies in different cities and states to account for the cost of towing a vehicle to a dealership when that is the only option. Those real world numbers were then combined with input from affiliated locksmiths so the estimates reflect what people are actually charged, not a rough guess.
The calculator asks for the year, make, and model of the vehicle, then layers in the variables that professionals weigh on every job. Drivers can select the time of service, whether that is during regular business hours, after hours, or in the middle of the night, on a holiday, or on a Sunday. They can indicate their location relative to a city center, since the number of nearby service providers affects the rate. A state selector adjusts for cost of living differences from one part of the country to another. From there, drivers choose between on site service by a locksmith or towing the car to the dealer, pick a key type preference of original OEM, refurbished, or aftermarket, and set how soon they need the work done.
The tool also accounts for the kind of details that trip up even experienced drivers. Certain makes such as Chrysler, Jeep, and Ford have what locksmiths call split year models, where the same model year can carry two different key types. One version uses a transponder chip that must be programmed and the other does not, and the price difference between them can be large. Ignition type matters too, since a push to start vehicle using a key fob usually costs more than an older ignition that takes a mechanical transponder key. The calculator was designed with these situations in mind so the estimate holds up in the real world.
“Our goal was simple,” said a spokesperson for Lost Car Keys Replacement. “We wanted drivers to feel informed instead of caught off guard. When you know roughly what a replacement key should cost in your state and your situation, it is a lot easier to spot a fair quote and avoid overpaying.”
The company notes that every figure the tool produces is an estimate and always encourages drivers to call at least three local providers to compare quotes. High security makes such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and Volvo tend to run higher than the standard estimates because they require specialized coding equipment, and the very newest model years may not yet be priced because the coding software is not always available right away.
